Thousands of brands resell about twenty boards. Most of them show a newer Android version than the one they run. This list goes by chip: CPU, architecture, real Android, displayed (fake) version and example brands.

Manufacturers edit the displayed version (ro.build.version.release in build.prop) but not the API level (ro.build.version.sdk). Read it with AIDA64 or CPU-Z (Play Store), or adb shell getprop ro.build.version.sdk.
